Stephan Morbach, MD
Stephan Morbach is currently Head of the Department of Diabetes and Angiology at the Marienkrankenhaus Gem.GmbH in Soest, Germany. His Department cares for patients with all types of Diabetes and its Complications, mainly for the Diabetic Foot and Chronic Wounds of other origins. He collaborates with the Department of Public Health, Düsseldorf University (Prof. A. Icks).
From 2002 to 2008 Dr. Morbach was Board member of the Diabetic Foot Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and between 2005 and 2008 he served as Chairman of this society. He is also a member of the Foot Council of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and of the globally acting International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF), Consultative Section of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). He is the national representative for Germany in the IWGDF.
He is the Chairman of the Evidence-based Diabetic Foot Guidelines Group of the German Diabetes Association (DDG) and a member of the board for the Program for National Disease Management Guidelines (German DM-CPG Program) of the German Medical Association and the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF).
Dr. Morbach is an active member of the faculty of the World Diabetes Foundation/IDF funded project “Step by Step: Improving Diabetic Footcare in the Developing World” and in context has been part of programmes a.o. in Tanzania, Egypt, India and the Carribbean region. He is part of the Board of the Step by Step Development and Research Group (SSDRG).
He authored several peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters on diabetic foot problems.
He graduated from the University of Bonn, Germany in 1989.
