Luigi Rizzo, MD

Dr. Rizzo graduated in Medicine and Surgery cum laude at the University of Pisa in 1990, where specialized in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1995. 

From 1995 to 1999 Dr. Rizzo was recipient of research contracts within the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the University of Pisa in the field of both micro-vascular and lower limb complications of diabetes.

From 1999 Dr. Rizzo held a post of Consultant in Diabetology and Metabolism in the  Hospital of the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana where she is now responsible for the Diabetic Foot (DF) outpatient management activities and where she manages the DF clinic.

Dr. Rizzo took active part in more than 20 international clinical studies and was responsible for the local organization and collection of data for the Eurodiale study.

Dr. Rizzo actively participated to the research project of the DF Section of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the University of Pisa and published many papers on lower limb complications on both international and national peer-reviewed publications, as well as chapters in specialized books.

Dr. Rizzo is responsible for the clinical tutorship of both physicians and podologists attending the DF section for both curricular and post-graduate education and followed many of them in their doctoral thesis projects.
